THE GOLF SWING

Golf Set-Up and Swing Fundamentals

Set-up and Swing Fundamentals

The set-up is the foundation of the golf swing and it is from the set-up that the swing is defined. Flaws in the fundamentals impact swing-plane, club head speed and then contact, resulting in inconsistency and a resultant loss of accuracy and distance. Ball flight is one of the keys to analysis and the accurate interpretation of the flight will determine the source of the swing fault.

The full swing for short irons, long irons and driver are subtly different not only due to the length of the shafts, but their effect on posture and swing plane. Initially, it is beneficial to develop increased confidence in the shorter irons, then extend this through to the longer irons, and then on to driver.

The lesson objective is to identify the issues, communicate the causes of the actions, and then describe and teach the actions that will remedy the issues. The goal is for the student to understand what has been covered and then put in the necessary practice so as to be comfortable with the changes.
